Multiple lanes of a major Texas highway are closed on Wednesday, May 6, causing massive traffic delays for Austin drivers.

The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Austin office posted a traffic alert just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, alerting drivers that Southbound I-35 just north of the U.S. Highway 183 interchange is reduced to one lane “due to a spill.” The department did not provide more information, but TxDOT traffic cameras show traffic is backed up to Parmer Lane.

Those traveling south on I-35 should “expect delays” and seek alternate routes. According to the traffic monitoring site SigAlert, the off-ramp of I-35 South to Highway 183 (Exit 239, Exit 240) is closed, as well.
