LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Two Estacado High School students have enlisted in the military.
Jayden Williams and Nicholas Mares enlisted Tuesday. Mares is enlisting in the Army and will ship out for basic training in June.
Williams enlisted in the 09 Romeo program through the Army. This will allow him to attend Texas Tech and participate in ROTC as a cadet while gaining leadership experience.
Williams is currently the battalion commander at school.
“The reason I decided to go the officer route is I’ve always been interested in leadership and teaching people how to lead and become their own leaders,” Williams said. “I’m currently the battalion commander at school right now, so that was more my area.”
The school presented both students with military cords they will wear at graduation.
