FORT WORTH, Texas – Two people are dead after a small plane crashed in North Texas, causing a massive fire that damaged several vehicles.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, multiple calls reported a plane crash on North Saginaw Boulevard, the Fort Worth Fire Department said. Crews arrived on the scene within five minutes. The area is located between Fort Worth Alliance Airport and Fort Worth Meacham Airport, about 22 miles west of DFW International Airport.

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows the plane’s wing touching the pavement before it crashed into a parking lot, triggering a huge fireball.

Crews reported that several tractor-trailers were involved in a heavy fire, and a downed aircraft was confirmed. Crews immediately began battling the blaze and checking for anyone who might need medical attention.

At least 10 tractor-trailers were damaged, and the fire also sparked grass fires, all of which were contained. The fire was brought under control within 35 minutes. FWFD initially took command with approximately 60 personnel, including 10 firetrucks, 14 support vehicles, and 3 ambulances, before transferring command to Tarrant County Fire, as the crash site was just outside Fort Worth city limits.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft King Air C90, had departed from Alliance Airport. Unfortunately, the two people on board were pronounced dead on scene. Authorities say there were no injuries to anyone on the ground.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
