Four people were injured in a knife attack at a Richardson restaurant Wednesday night, in a violent incident that ended in the suspect being shot and killed by police, authorities said.

Officers with the Richardson Police Department were called around 10 p.m. to the 2100 block of East Buckingham Road after reports of a man armed with a knife threatening several people, according to a police news release.

When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect outside the entrance of the Good Vibes Br & Grill restaurant, still holding a knife. Police said they were told that the victims were inside the restaurant at the time.

Officers issued multiple commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply, police said. Two officers then discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

Additional officers on the scene began providing medical aid to victims inside the restaurant until paramedics arrived. Four people injured in the attack were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Authorities said there is no continuing threat to the public as the investigation continues.

The business involved, Good Vibes Bar & Grill, said in a Facebook post that it was hosting a music bingo night at the time of the incident.

In a separate post shared by the bar, a person identified as co-owner Jay Smith said he was out of town and asked for prayers for a person and customers who helped her during the incident, adding that staff members were shaken.

The bar said it would be closed on Thursday and plans to reopen on Friday.
