EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A woman with three prior DWI convictions was arrested over the weekend after an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a pickup truck for speeding in East El Paso.

According to the sheriff’s office, on May 2, at about 2:50 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Zaragoza Road and John Hayes Street after observing a white Ford F-150 traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver was identified as 35-year-old Erica Vianney Becerra.

During the investigation, the deputy observed multiple signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, glossy eyes, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.

According to the sheriff’s office, Becerra admitted to consuming alcohol before driving,

Becerra was then taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.

A records check later revealed she has three prior DWI convictions, the sheriff’s office said.

She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated – Third or More, a felony offense, and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $75,000 bond.

“Driving under the influence continues to claim thousands of lives every year,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “At the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, we are committed to preventing these tragedies and will take action against anyone who chooses to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Plan ahead, get a safe ride home, and don’t drink and drive.”
