EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Young writers in El Paso will be recognized Friday afternoon for sharing bilingual, heartfelt reflections on the mother figures who have shaped their lives.

El Paso Public Libraries, in partnership with The Great Khalid Foundation, will announce the winners of the Mother’s Day Essay Contest.

The contest invited children and teens to write about their mothers or mother figures, including aunts, grandmothers, older sisters and others who have provided a motherly influence.

Students competed in two age categories: ages 5 to 10 and ages 11 to 18.

During the awards ceremony, winning students will be recognized for their essays, share portions of their work and receive special prizes.

Linda Wolfe, the mother of recording artist Khalid, is expected to attend and personally present prizes to the winners.

Wolfe, through The Great Khalid Foundation, supports youth, creativity, music and education in the El Paso community.

More information about the Mother’s Day Essay Contest and other El Paso Public Libraries programs is available at www.ElPasoLibraries.org.

The Great Khalid Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by El Paso artist Khalid and led by Wolfe.
