One of Central Texas’ most notorious true-crime cases is getting a new look in an upcoming documentary special. HBO Max will release a follow-up episode of its Austin Yogurt Shop Murders docuseries, revisiting the 1991 quadruple homicide and the recent developments investigators say could help solve the case after more than three decades.
The series, which debuted in August 2025, explored the 1991 murders of 13-year-old Amy Ayers, 17-year-old Eliza Thomas, 17-year-old Jennifer Harbison and 15-year-old Sarah Harbison at an I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt shop in Austin. For decades, the case shook the city of Austin and remained a mystery, but police made a significant breakthrough in 2025, which is now the subject of the series’ latest episode.
The new episode appears to be a continuation of the slain girls’ family members sharing their reactions to the news that the 34-year-old mystery had been solved, as well as perspectives from local investigators and city leaders on the case’s details. It will also touch on the story of one of four men who were falsely accused of the murders and the daughter of Brashers, who died by suicide during a police standoff in 1999.
Previously, four men — Maurice Pierce, Forrest Welborn, Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott — had been arrested on capital murder charges in 1999. The original four-part series dives into the immense trauma the city felt after the crime, including interviews with the girls’ family members, Austin police investigators, suspects and archival footage from the crime scene ravaged by fire and water.
While the trailer for the new episode seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle, it also explores themes of closure and reckoning as the girls’ family members and the Austin community continue to take steps toward healing. The Yogurt Shop Murders: The Final Chapter will premiere on Friday, May 22, on HBO Max.
