EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — An inmate at the El Paso County Jail Annex has died after a medical emergency, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office reported that staff at the facility responded to a medical emergency involving an inmate on Friday morning and provided lifesaving measures before the inmate was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The identity and the cause of the medical emergency of the inmate are unclear.
The death is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the Texas Rangers and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
The sheriff’s office said the Texas Commission on Jail Standards was notified in accordance with state law.
