Texas A&M baseball had its opportunities to capture the series win over Ole Miss, but the Aggies dropped the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader for their second consecutive SEC series loss.
After struggling to produce at the plate against left-hander Hunter Elliott in Friday’s 5-3 loss, the lineup bounced back for a massive 18-5 run-rule victory in the first game on Saturday. Texas A&M recorded seven home runs in the win, two of which came from shortstop Ben Royo, who had a career outing replacing an injured Boston Kellner. Royo had no home runs this season entering the weekend, but exited with three total home runs and five RBIs.
Still, Royo’s outstanding performance was not enough for the Aggies to topple the Rebels in the rubber match Saturday night. Ole Miss jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings before Texas A&M rallied and put up a five-spot to tie the game in the top of the fourth.
Both teams were scoreless through the next three innings until Judd Utermark’s RBI single gave Ole Miss a 6-5 lead. With only six outs remaining, the Aggies left runners stranded in scoring position in the eighth and grounded into a double play to end the game in the ninth.
Getting healthy must be the primary focus for the Aggies entering the final week of the regular season. Freshman sensation Nico Partida missed all contests this week due to an injury sustained against Auburn last weekend, while Kellner reportedly suffered a broken orbital bone in the series opener against Ole Miss. Chris Hacopian remained the designated hitter in the loss to the Rebels as he continues to rehab an injury sustained earlier this year.

With much of the infield sidelined, Blake Binderup, Sawyer Farr and Royo will play integral roles in how far this team advances in their absence.
Next up, Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park for the regular-season finale against Mississippi State. The series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, followed by Game 2 on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Game 3 was moved from its original start time to 11 a.m. CT in Bryan-College Station.

The Aggies dominate Game 2 with seven home runs and secure a massive run-rule victory, making the series finale a winner-take-all. Texas A&M had three players record four RBIs in the win, including Hacopian and Royo, who had two home runs each. Sorrell, Harrison and Binderup rounded out the rest of the Aggies’ home run spectacular against Ole Miss in the first of two on Saturday. The series win is on the line in Game 3, coming up in an hour.

It is all Aggies entering the seventh after Harrison’s two-run home run, an RBI single from Royo and an RBI double from Grahovac.
Another RBI from Royo makes it 15-5 in favor of the Aggies.
The Aggies prevent the Rebels from scoring in the fifth and Harrison records a two-run homer to extend the lead, 14-5. That marks the sixth home run of the game for Texas A&M.
