Only three restaurants picked up new stars on the Texas Michelin Guide. Announced at a ceremony in Houston on Tuesday, we learned which Lone Star State restaurants earned a star, kept their stars, earned a green star, special award, or Bib Gourmand designation, which recognizes restaurants for great food at a great value.

A lot of our favorites made the list, including plenty of barbecue, but one thing that did surprise us was the one city to bring home two of the three new stars given out. It wasn’t Austin, Houston, or Dallas (although they picked up one new star), but San Antonio that walked away with two new Michelin-starred restaurants.

The Newest Michelin-Starred Restaurants In Texas

These are the two new one-star entrants in San Antonio:

Isidore, located in San Antonio’s historic Pearl District, is named for the patron saint of farmers and laborers, and as such, leans heavily on local Texas ingredients and cooking traditions, including Native American elements. The restaurant also earned a Green Star, for its sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Nicosi is an intimate 20-seat San Antonio dessert bar from pastry chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph. The restaurant treats dining as theater—guests are seated theater-in-the-round style around the chefs, who work under overhead lighting that acts like a spotlight. The menu changes often, but the goal no matter the night is to surprise and delight guests with just how innovative and delicious dessert can be.

One spot in Dallas also got a new star:

Mamani is a contemporary French spot in Dallas helmed by chef Christophe De Lellis. The menu features many French classics, like Dover sole with brown butter, Robuchon’s signature butter-laden pommes purée (De Lellis spent a decade at Restaurant Joël Robuchon in Vegas), and chocolate mousse, but also blends in international flavors like za’atar and calamansi. Its win is particularly impressive given the restaurant is only about two months old.

Restaurants That Retained Their Stars

Here is a list of all the other Michelin-starred restaurants in Texas, including quite a few barbecue favorites. Each has earned one star.

Special Awards

In addition to stars and Bib Gourmand recommendations, the Michelin Guide recognized Texas dining with a few other awards.

Michelin Outstanding Service Award: Elliot Wood, General Manager of Houston’s Credence.
