San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama was ejected from Game 4 of the best-of-7 series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, May 10.
The foul call was made after Wembanyama went for an offensive rebound, was crowded by two Timberwolves players and when his arms swang, his elbow hit Wolves forward Naz Reid in the neck. The call was made with 8:39 seconds remaining in the first half of the matchup in Minnesota.
Up to that point, Wembanyama had four points, four rebounds, one assist and had two personal fouls before the call that got him ejected from the contest. At that point in the game, the score was 34-36 in favor of the Timberwolves.
The Spurs are currently up in the series 2-1 as Game 4 rolls on. Wemby went into the game coming off a record-breaking night versus the Wolves in Game 3, notching 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the contest. That feat had only been accomplished by three other players in NBA history: Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
As of this writing there is no word yet on whether Wemby will be suspended from the next game, following the flagrant 2 foul call. Jeff McDonald with the Express-News says “The league will review the Wembanyama play tomorrow. The question now is whether he will be available for Game 5.”
