With summer approaching, many people are starting to plan a new vacation or weekend getaway within the next few months. Luckily, Central Texans won’t have to travel too far to find some of the most trusted places to stay in the world.
Two luxurious Austin hotels, Commodore Perry Estate and the Austin Proper Hotel, are once again being recognized in Travel + Leisure’s 2026 report of the 500 best hotels in the world for 2026. The annual roundup represents the highest-ranked properties from the magazine’s annual World’s Best Survey.
These results were separated by geographic regions from North America to South America, Europe, Asia and more to determine what state-of-the-art hospitality looks like to T+L readers around the world. From a secluded beachside villa in the Philippines to a historic Parisian landmark in France, both Austin hotels stood out for holding their own one-of-a-kind experiences and Michelin-praised food in the Capital City.
“Each property is special in its own right, but excellence is their common denominator,” the report says.
Since opening in 2020, the Commodore Perry Estate has been restored to its former glory and given a new life as a luxury boutique hotel in Austin’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The Great Gatsby-era mansion is a 10,800-square-foot manor surrounded by 10 acres of European-style gardens.
The property offers unique perks for guests like wine or tequila tastings, tours of the estate and a Michelin-recommended restaurant, Lutie’s, that has hands-on cooking lessons with executive pastry chef Susana Querejazu.
Established in 2019, the Proper Hotel in Austin is an upscale destination located in the Second Street District of downtown Austin, steps away from popular spots like Lady Bird Lake, ACL Live and more. The hotel offers 238 design-forward rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, immersive wellness experiences, and menus built around local farms, vibrant produce and nutrient-rich ingredients, according to its website.
It’s also home to several restaurants, including a new 25-seat French-Japanese restaurant, Kappo Kappo, Goldie’s Sunken Bar, Peacock Mediterranean Grill, and its rooftop favorite La Piscina.
The full 500 hotel list can be found in Travel + Leisure’s May 2026 issue.
