The NFL announced Monday morning the Cowboys will head on the road and face the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football on Sept. 13.
The Cowboys are 42-42-1 on Sunday Night Football overall, and Dallas has lost three of its last four Sunday night openers. This will also be the fourth consecutive season Dallas has started a campaign away from AT&T Stadium.
The Giants finished last season with a 4-13 record. They replaced former head coach Brian Daboll with former longtime Ravens head coach John Harbaugh this offseason.
The season opener is the second game revealed on the Cowboys’ schedule. The Cowboys will play against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3 in Rio de Janeiro on Sept. 27. Dallas will be the home team on that day. That means the Cowboys will travel over 6,500 air miles in the first three weeks of the season.
It would make sense, then, that the Cowboys will probably have their home opener in Week 2.
The full schedule will be released on Thursday, though other primetime matchups could be announced in the days leading up to it.
