Driverless 18 wheelers are nothing new to Texas highways as they have been rolling along them for a minute. Now, they’ve made it as far as El Paso.

Self-driving semi trucks are a thing in Texas. Some Texans are good with it, some are kinda “ehhh” and some are dead set against them. Love ’em or hate ’em, it seems they’re here to stay and now they’re rolling through El Paso.

A few were spotted in the 915 during initial test runs but now, dedicated routes are coming together and El Paso is going to be a regular stop so be extra careful around semis in El Chuco.

Just in time for Halloween, Maximum Overdrive may be about to meet Skynet.

“Six months out from launch, we’re achieving more industry-firsts, expanding quickly and paving the way to deploy hundreds of trucks next year,” said Chris Urmson, co-founder and CEO at Aurora, in the release. “Expanding to El Paso, notching over 100,000 driverless miles and integrating our new hardware with multiple truck platforms extends our strong lead.” – freightwaves.com

That freightwaves.com article also says Aurora isn’t alone. “The recent addition of the El Paso lane also brought two more carriers on board to test the driverless vehicles”. So, what they’re saying is, self-driving semis are operating in El Paso and more are coming.
