The City of Lubbock has seen several headlines over the weekend of severe car accidents and even an officer-involved shooting. These are the details as we know them so far.
Officer-Involved Shooting in Lubbock
Everything Lubbock previously reported that on Sunday, May 10, Lubbock Police Department (LPD) responded to the 3400 block of 38th Street after reports were made of an officer-involved shooting.
It was discovered that just earlier that day, an officer from LPD was already dispatched to the location in order to assist a citizen in retrieving their personal property from a residence they moved out of.
When the officer and the citizen approached the building, the remaining resident produced a firearm and aimed it at the citizen. This was when the officer took out his own firearm and fired shots at the resident, requiring them to be rushed to University Medical Center (UMC) with serious injuries. Both the officer and the citizen were uninjured.
Several Car Wrecks in Lubbock
In addition to the officer-involved shooting over the weekend, a man, later identified as 69-year-old Charles Hargrove, was struck and killed at the 5100 block of 19th Street on Saturday.
Police say Hargrove stepped off his curb into the street just as a vehicle was traveling westbound in the right-hand lane. Hargrove was struck and later rushed to UMC where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made as this is an ongoing investigation as of May 11.
Finally, early morning Monday , LPD responded to a home on Hope Avenue after a vehicle drove straight into the building. Fortunately, there didn’t seem to be any injuries to the driver or those inside the house.
