Originally from Tennessee, May got his start in stand-up in the Houston comedy scene, naming the legendary Sam Kinison as a reason he moved to the Space City. He later would move to Los Angeles, where his career would take off as he toured extensively and landed a few Netflix specials.
May died at age 45 from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, or heart damage caused by high blood pressure.
Turner, who was married to May for 10 years, will bring her documentary “Come What May” to the River Oaks Theater on May 13 for a screening and Q&A, sharing the story of May’s life in comedy and the struggles he faced along the way.
Directed by Turner and David Gantz, the documentary includes appearances from comedians Jay Leno, the late Bob Saget, Jay Mohr, Tiffany Haddish, Jeff Ross, Maz Jobrani, Alonzo Bodden, Russell Peters, Kevin Smith and Dr. Drew Pinsky.
The Houston screening is part of the film’s nationwide theatrical roadshow.
