Bexar County Sheriff’s Office – Body found (May 11, 2026)
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A body found in southwest Bexar County is believed to be part of a bigger human smuggling effort that resulted in six bodies being found in a railroad yard in Laredo on Sunday.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says the body was found near Pue Road and Wolf Road on the Southwest Side. He says the body was that of a male from Mexico who had a Mexican voter registration card. The man’s name has yet to be released and his cause of death is not yet confirmed.
Investigators say the man died inside a boxcar that got too hot, and Salazar says the body may have been found by smugglers who dumped the body to avoid being caught. Work is still being done to figure out how one dead body arrived in San Antonio, but not the six others found in Laredo on Sunday.
Sheriff Salazar says the boxcar could have reached a temperature of 150 degrees, and the San Antonio Police Department may have gotten a tip that there was trouble. Police say a relative of the man had called to say it was getting hot in the boxcar, and that they were having trouble. It is believed the relative who reached out is one of the people found dead in Laredo.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is involved in the cases.
Union Pacific says it is cooperating with the investigation.
