For those new to the runway experience, Swinney described Austin Fashion Week as an energetic celebration of design and innovation.
“So we’re in year 17 — it’s one of the longest-running fashion weeks in the country. We survived COVID, did all the things, yeah — and we’re here to stay. It’s three big days: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 6th through 8th, at The Domain. We’ll be right in front of iPic Theater, in that kind of park space this year. We move it around a bit just to give it a fresh feel.

It’s about 80-ish designers this year doing runway collections across five shows. Like, we really focus — even in the early years — on making sure that going to a fashion show isn’t intimidating for most people. It’s not, though. It’s really not. We have eight-year-olds in the audience! People ask me all the time, ‘Can I bring my kids?’ Yes, absolutely. We want it to feel very family-friendly.

Just think of it as going to a museum or something like that — it’s art that just happens to move, right? To me, that’s what we want it to be. It’s open at The Domain, and it’s meant to be something that you feel like you can go to. But then the second you kind of step inside the ropes, it just feels elevated and special,” Swinney said.

Designer Cleva Kah will debut a powerful new collection at the event, with models giving a sneak peek at several standout looks.
“So I’ll be presenting in The Resilient Show. The Resilient Show is about celebrating the triumphs of domestic abuse survivors, and that really ties in with what my brand image is all about. It’s about reflecting the individual — helping someone feel a little bit better about themselves. You can battle mental wellness when you think you look good. You look good, you feel good.
We wanted to create something that was going to be both beautiful and brave. During our segment, you’ll notice the models will be wearing purple masquerade masks, which symbolize courage, transformation, and healing,” Cleva said.

Beyond the glamour, this year’s Austin Fashion Week will also support flood relief efforts across Texas — a cause close to the organizers’ hearts.
