Ochoa made his on-air debut Monday on the weekday morning newscast, which airs from 5 to 7 a.m.

In a video shared by Univision introducing the veteran journalist, Ochoa said joining the station “means great joy because I have the opportunity to further serve the Latino community here in Houston, a community I’ve connected with so deeply.” 

Asked what viewers can expect from him, Ochoa said audiences can expect “precision with information, truthfulness, but above all—something very important—which is that the information we provide is useful for all of you.” 

Before joining Univision Houston, Ochoa spent two years at Telemundo Houston, where he co-anchored the station’s 5, 10 and 10:30 p.m. weekday newscasts alongside Crystal Ayala before departing in 2024.

Before his time in Houston, Ochoa spent four years anchoring morning newscasts at KVEA Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles. During his tenure there, he earned two Emmy Awards for Best Morning Newscast and Best Breaking News Coverage tied to protests and riots following the George Floyd case.

Earlier in his career, Ochoa anchored En Una Hora and Paralelo 23, two primetime news programs on Televisa’s Foro TV, and co-anchored Las Noticias, the morning newscast on Las Estrellas.

Journalism runs in Ochoa’s family. His father worked as a TV journalist in Mexico for many years, inspiring him to follow the same career path. 

Ochoa began his journalism career as a reporter for Grupo Mundo Ejecutivo before becoming editor-in-chief of publications including Mundo Ejecutivo and Golf Tournament & Resorts. His TV career started in 2004 at Televisión Mexiquense, a state TV station in Mexico, where he hosted the morning show Te Levanta while also anchoring the station’s morning newscast.

Three years later, he became a correspondent for Univision local stations in the Mexico City bureau. In 2010, he joined the team of journalists at Noticiero Televisa.

Born in Mexico City, Ochoa earned a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences from Universidad Anáhuac. In 2007, he received the Young Leader in Communication Award in the State of Mexico, and in 2017, the Mexican Senate recognized him for his journalism career.
