COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – New Texas A&M President Susan Ballabina released a letter to the University on her first day in office.
In the letter, Ballabina shared her thanks to Chancellor Glenn Hegar and the Board of Regents and thanked Tommy Williams, who served as interim president.
“I know the past several years have not been easy, but Texas A&M has continued to move forward because of your strength and commitment to each other and our special mission,” the letter reads. “My focus is to help us continue that progress with steadiness, transparency and a clear sense of purpose.”
Ballabina also shared who will serve on her staff.
Holly Shive will serve as Chief of Staff. Holly most recently served as Chief Presidential Communications Officer in the President’s Office and, over the last 15 years, has held leadership roles across the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas A&M AgriLife and the Division of Marketing and Communications, according to the letter.
Kala McCain will step into the role vacated by Shive. McCain previously served as the Assistant Vice President for Enterprise Communications and Governance within the Division of Marketing and Communications.
Ballabina also announced a dedicated legal counsel for the university. Starting in June, Carla Vogel will serve as the Chief Legal Affairs Officer. Carla will remain a System employee reporting through the Office of General Counsel while embedded in the President’s Office. Carla currently serves in the A&M System Office of General Counsel, where she works in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, and brings extensive experience in employment litigation, higher education law and compliance, the letter states.
