Court bars Corpus Christi Crónica founder from property dealings in estate dispute

Eric Tunchez faces a permanent injunction in a property dispute involving Corpus Christi rental income, court records show. Tenants may seek legal action.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A permanent injunction was issued today against Eric Tunchez, the founder of Corpus Christi Crónica, over an ongoing property dispute.

The injunction was ordered by Mark Woerner at Nueces County Court at Law No. 4.

Court records show the dispute involves the estate of Robert Michael Peters and rental income from several Corpus Christi properties.

The lengthy dispute stems from adverse possession, a legal doctrine that under specific circumstances allows a person to gain ownership rights over property belonging to another person.

Judge Woerner stated that Tunchez did not come close to meeting those legal requirements.

“You have absolutely no valid claim of adverse possession. Your affidavits of adverse possession are complete nonsense and have no validity whatsoever. So considering what you have filed, all I can say is any lawyer can tell you that you do not meet the qualifications of adverse possession or even come close to it.”

Tunchez is now prohibited from having any further dealings with the properties or the property owner.

If he attempts to interfere with the rightful owner of the estate, Amy Becker, or any of the properties — including collecting rent — he could end up back in court, face fines, incarceration, or both.

KIII 3NEWS spoke with Tunchez following today’s ruling.

“I respect the ruling today. I’m here to protect the trust and continue to respect it and the charitable remainder to the veterans of Corpus Christi.”

Several tenants who claim they were wrongfully impacted by Tunchez were also present during today’s hearing.

They say they are pleased with the outcome but may still seek legal assistance, claiming they were left without rent money and without a place to live.
