The Arlington City Council declared the city’s general and special election results during its Tuesday meeting.
The mayor, as well as council members for districts 3, 4 and 5 were sworn in at the meeting. District 8, which represents the city at large, will go to a runoff on June 13.
Neither Melody Fowler nor Jason Shelton obtained a majority of votes for District 8. Incumbent council member Barbara Odom-Wesley will continue to serve in her position until the runoff is concluded.

Mayor Jim Ross was reelected for his third and final term. During the meeting, Ross said he had never felt more love from the community than he did during this election cycle.
“I will commit to y’all that we will bust our tail for the next three years — my last three years — and we will make some incredible things happen here in Arlington,” he said.

Nikkie Hunter, representing District 3, was reelected for her third and final term. Hunter thanked her district as well as south Arlington leaders during the meeting.
“This is a grassroot campaign, we did everything from canvassing to block walking to marketing,” Hunter said. “I want to say thank you to everyone.”
Tom Ware, representing District 4, was elected for his first term. Ware said he is looking forward to his first term and is ready to start making an impact. He said with the election over, it’s time for the city to come together so that changes can be made.

“This was a tough election, especially in the mayor’s race, and I just want us to all get back together again,” Ware said. “Be Arlington again like Arlington is.”
Brittney Garcia-Dumas, representing District 5, was elected for her first term. Garcia-Dumas also mentioned her grassroot campaign and how she and her team knocked on over 3,500 doors.
Being from Arlington, graduating from the Arlington school system and now representing the city on its council feels great, Garcia-Dumas said. She said an issue she is vocal about is walkability in the city.

“Come to meetings, get involved and we’ll have a vibrant future together,” Garcia-Dumas said.
The council will convene for evening council at 6:30 p.m. May 19 at the Arlington City Council Chambers.
