College graduations are happening now, and, of course, that’s something good. The milestone brought something extra special for a young woman from Fort Worth.
Andrea Morgan graduated from Texas Lutheran University, a small private college in Houston, last weekend.
Andrea earned her nursing degree and asked her mom to join her on stage at the pinning ceremony, which symbolizes the transition from nursing school to healthcare professional.
Her grandpa, 91, was also there to cheer her on after a nine-hour bus ride from Chihuahua, Mexico. Andrea says he’s never missed a milestone in her life and has shown her unconditional support and love. So, it meant everything to have him there.
“Seeing him watch me walk across the stage not once, but twice was incredibly emotional and special for me. It reminded me how much family support matters and how proud he is of me,” Andrea told NBC 5.
Nursing is Andrea’s second degree, and she’s excited to step into her new career.
She hopes to start her first nursing job in women’s services, ideally in labor and delivery, postpartum, or mother-baby care. Her ultimate goal is to become a women’s health nurse practitioner.
Andrea and her sister Arden both graduated from Young Women’s Leadership Academy in Fort Worth ISD before earning their college degrees. Arden graduated from Texas Tech.
In an email to NBC 5, Andrea wrote, “We were taught the importance of health, wellness, confidence, and advocating for ourselves from a young age, and those lessons stayed with me throughout my life. Being surrounded by strong female mentors and classmates really inspired me to pursue a career where I could continue supporting women in meaningful ways. “
