SH 361 exercise will test hurricane flood protection system near the Dale Miller Bridge on Thursday starting at 9 a.m.
ARANSAS PASS, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation will conduct its annual hurricane readiness drill on Thursday by installing part of the storm surge wall along SH 361 in Aransas Pass.
The exercise is scheduled for 9 a.m. just west of the Dale Miller Bridge on SH 361.
Officials said maintenance crews will erect a partial section of the storm surge wall as part of annual hurricane preparedness efforts ahead of the 2026 storm season.
According to TxDOT, the wall measures 80 feet wide and 10 feet tall and is designed to complete the levee system protecting Aransas Pass from hurricane-driven storm surge and rising water.
The drill allows crews to practice installation procedures and ensure the barrier system is ready in the event of a hurricane threat along the Coastal Bend.
Motorists traveling through the area may see maintenance crews and equipment during the exercise on Thursday morning.
