HORIZON CITY, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A large house fire broke out in Horizon City on Wednesday night as firefighters worked to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes, according to authorities.

According to El Paso County Emergency Services, fire crews from Horizon, Socorro, and Clint responded to the house fire on Desert Mesa, which is being described as a large fire, while investigators remain on standby.

“Crews on scene found a fully involved prefabricated home on fire. Fire was a condition 2, and crews are still on the scene. Horizon fire, Socorro fire, and Clint fire units on the scene. Fire marshals are on scene waiting to do the investigation,” Kristian Menendez, Fire Chief of El Paso County Emergency Services District No. 1, said.

He added that no firefighter injuries have been reported.

Daniel Ames, assistant fire chief for El Paso County ESD 1, told KFOX14/CBS4 the call came in at 7:32 p.m. of a structure fire at Cow Tongue and Desert Mesa.

“When units arrived, they found the home fully involved; they started extinguishment as soon as they could. Currently, the fire is under control,” Ames said.

According to Ames, a thorough search of the residence is being done “to make sure we don’t have any victims.”

While officials have made contact with the family of the residence, it is still unclear if anyone was inside, Ames said.

Ames said the fire was contained to one residence, with no extension or damage to residents around.

However, the home is unlivable at this moment

Officials said the scene is still under investigation.
