FORT WORTH – The No. 5 TCU women’s soccer team achieved another milestone in its history on Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, winning the Big 12 regular season crown in back-to-back seasons after defeating Houston 2-0.

THE RUNDOWN
TCU (15-2-1, 9-1-1 Big 12) struck early right before the 20-minute mark in tonight’s showdown against Houston. In the 19th minute, Sydney Becerra and Cate Sarinopoulos had some nice build up that eventually led to the ball being in AJ Hennessey’s possession. The senior would end up striking a ball from just outside the box that would float past the Cougar goalkeeper and give TCU the lead nearly halfway through the first 45 minutes.

Overall for the first half, TCU earned a 10-3 shot advantage, putting four of those on goal as well. The Frogs would head out of the break looking to keep the momentum and bring a title back to Fort Worth.

In the 57th minute of the second half of action, Grace Coppinger struck a deep ball that found Cameron Patton running down the field. After it was deflected around, Patton regained control and sent a ball into the box that found Emma Yolinsky who hit it on the first touch and put it into the back of the net to give TCU some extra cushion and a 2-0 advantage.

After Yolinsky’s goal, the physicality increased but TCU’s resilience and effort stayed the same. The Frogs were able to maintain composure and close out the final 30 minutes of the match and win another Big 12 title.

Olivia Geller played all 90 minutes, grabbing four saves.
