EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Hospitals of Providence are marking 50 years of serving the Borderland, with a celebration on Wednesday to honor the system’s Sierra campus, which first opened in 1976.

The anniversary event brought together hospital staff and community members who share personal and professional ties to the campus. The celebration also included commemorative artwork to be displayed on campus and a history wall featuring important events from the hospital’s past.

Speaking to KFOX14/CBS4 on Wednesday, Loretta Castanon, RN, director of nursing for medical, surgical, and orthopedics, said she has spent her entire nursing career at the Sierra campus.

“I’ve actually been a nurse for ten years, and all those years have been here,” Castanon said.

She added that the staff takes pride in the care they provide.

“We put a lot of love in the care that we give to our patients and to visitors in general,” Canstanon said.

David Byrd, CEO of The Hospitals of Providence, said the Sierra campus reflects the kind of experiences found across local hospitals.

“These are the types of stories that happen, not only here at Sierra, but all of our hospitals, really every hospital here in town,” Byrd said.
