The Aledo Bearcats (8-0, 6-0) seek to maintain their perfect season when they welcome the Azle Hornets (2-6, 2-4) to Tim Buchanan Stadium on Friday night in a 5A-1 Region I District 3 matchup.
The Bearcats have been nothing short of dominant this season, most recently dismantling Richland 72-10 behind senior quarterback Lincoln Tubbs’ spectacular performance that included 270 passing yards with four touchdowns through the air and 138 rushing yards with another score on the ground. Senior running back Kaden Winkfield added two rushing touchdowns in the rout.
Azle enters with renewed confidence, having won two of three after a 35-13 victory over Granbury last week, as senior quarterback Derrek Vowell threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns while sophomore King Stephens rushed for 135 yards and a score. The Hornets face a daunting challenge, however, as they try to avenge last November’s 77-14 defeat at the hands of the powerhouse Bearcats.
Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on Friday, October 31 with a live TV broadcast on NFHS Network.
