Eovaldi, who was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday with left side tightness, recovered well enough to throw a bullpen earlier this week and was cleared to pitch. It saves the Rangers from having to find an emergency starter.
Over his last two starts, both against the New York Yankees, Eovaldi has allowed just one run in 15 innings. The lone run came on an Aaron Judge solo homer. Since joining the Rangers for 2023, he has a 2.86 ERA in 34.2 innings against the Astros. Last year, he held Houston to one run in 13.1 innings in two starts.
