City officials said they learned about the new show at the same time as the public. A production manager later contacted the city to inform staff that filming will primarily take place at residential homes, though some scenes may occasionally be shot downtown or at local restaurants.
It is unclear what, if any, effect the petition would have on the production of the show, which Bravo described as a series following “a tight-knit circle of glamorous, wealthy women as they navigate love, strained relationships, and marriage drama.”
The petition says residents “must take a stand against this misrepresentation of our beloved town.” The culture and dignity of Boerne should not become collateral damage in the quest for entertainment profits.” It also says the show’s “selective storytelling” may lead to “unwarranted judgments and stereotypes” about Boerne, a popular Hill Country town known for its rich German history, scenic outdoor amenities and historic downtown.
It also raises concern that the show could invite a media frenzy, invade privacy and even affect tourism and local businesses.
The petition outlined a plea to other networks and production companies to “seek the genuine stories that showcase the city’s traditions and values in their true light.”
“Reality shows do more harm than good. Please leave Boerne out of this drama,” someone named Liza said in the comment section of the petition. While someone named Jessica said, “We are in Boerne for its shared values. Let’s not muddy them with filth and allow these families to objectify their children.”
