LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Tech Red Raiders opened up the Lubbock Regional Friday afternoon against the Marist Red Foxes from Tracy Sellers Field.
FIRST INNING:
The Red Foxes were on the board first as Sienna Kunze brought in the first run, but the Red Raiders would even it out in the bottom of the first inning off a Jasmyn Burns single to left field that brought in Kaitlyn Terry.
SECOND INNING:
Terry and the Red Raiders would keep Marist off the board in the top of the second inning with a 1-2-3 inning. Texas Tech would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning, Mihyia Davis to the plate with Logan Halleman on first base, Halleman would steal second causing the Marist pitcher to throw to second but an error would advance her to third, as well as another error at throw would bring Halleman home for the 2-1 Texas Tech lead.
From there the bats would start to heat up for the Red Raiders, Terry would double to left field which would bring in Davis, Terry would advance to third off a throwing error by Marist. Mia Williams followed suit laying down a bunt back to the pitcher to bring home Terry to give the Red Raiders the 4-1 lead after two innings.
THIRD INNING:
The bats would stay hot for Texas Tech in the third inning with a Burns single to left field; Makayla Garcia would come in to run for Burns. Taylor Pannell would leave the yard for her 10th home run of the season bringing in herself and Garcia for the two-run home run to put Texas Tech up 6-1 with no outs. Davis would keep that going in the third inning, reaching on an infield single which would score in Hailey Toney and advance Halleman to third base.
Halleman would prove that her base-stealing skills are as elite as they’ve ever been, stealing home as Davis stole second to make this one an 8-1 Red Raider lead. Terry would be called safe at first on an error by the Marist center fielder, scoring in Davis and Terry would advance to second on the same play adding on the 9th Texas Tech run after three innings.
FOURTH INNING:
This one would enter a lightning delay in the top of the fourth inning due to incoming storms to the Lubbock area picking back up around 7:20 p.m. with no runs for either team.
FIFTH INNING:
Samantha Lincoln would come in to pitch as relief for Terry and on the final out to end this one early. Lincoln gave up two runs off a deep center ball scoring in two for Marist to make this one a 9-3 game headed into the bottom of the fifth inning.
Terry would hit a double followed by Mia Williams with a big hit to the centerfield wall bringing in Terry but getting caught in a run down for the out but not before the Red Raiders go up 10-3.
SIXTH INNING:
Lincoln able to keep Marist from striking anymore runs in the top of the sixth inning which brought back the Red Raider bats looking to end this one early but the Red Raiders would get caught in more base running issues allowing the Red Foxes to turn a double play to end the sixth inning.
SEVENTH INNING:
Samantha Lincoln gets the final strikeout in this one.
No. 11 Texas Tech defeats Marist 10-3 in their opening game and will now face Ole Miss tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT in the winner’s bracket of the Lubbock Regional.
