Several athletes in our coverage area will be moving on to the state cross-country meet next weekend in Round Rock, after competing in the regional CC meet this past week in Huntsville. The Top 4 teams and the Top 10 individual runners not on a qualifying team, advanced to the state meet according to UIL rules.
Cameron Yoe will be sending their boys CC team to the state meet, after they finished fourth in the Class 3A, Region III Men’s 5,000 Meter race at regionals. Esteban Luna had the top time for the Yoemen, finishing 13th overall with a time of 16:55.10. Steven Martinez made the Top 25 at No. 24 with his time of 17:17.50. Ricardo Reyes crossed the finish line at No. 30, and had a time of 17:36.40. Vicente Sanchez time in the race was 18:33.90, Marbel Reducindo’s time was 18:42.30, Adrian Vargas finished with at time of 20:01.50, and Jacoby Ethan finish time was 21:16.30.
Freshman Bethany Merryman was the lone runner for the Yoemen girls, finishing the Girls 2 Mile Run in 25th place with a time of 13:33.60 out of 169 runners.
Rockdale will have an athlete in the boy’s division competing at state. Jonathan Fuller finished third overall out of 182 runners with a time of 16:20.30. Fuller competed in the Mens 5,000 Meters in Class 3A, Reg. III.
In the Women’s Class 2A Reg. III 2 Mile Run, Chilton’s Yarida De Leon will compete at the state meet after she finished third overall with a time of 12:55.50.
Thorndale will have three girls returning to the state meet. Raven Sandoval finished the regional meet in fifth place with at time of 12:55.70, Skielee Bear finished in seventh place with at time of 13:03.60, and Nadia Gonzalez came in at No. 15 with her time of 13:30.16. The Class 2A Region IV CC meet was held at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, at Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium. The girl’s team finished sixth overall.
The boy’s CC team finished seventh overall, with Jamie Llanas the top finisher for Thorndale. Llanas came in No. 27 with a time of 20:08.10.
Rosebud-Lott’s Aiden Dominguez-Cruz competed in the Reg. IV meet, finishing 54th out of 162 competitors with a time of 21:37.28.
In Class 1A Reg. IV, Buckholts Caylee Velez competed and finished 88th out of 147 runners.
