Two men were shot and killed by police in East Fort Worth early Saturday morning in separate shootings that happened hours apart, police said.
First, Fort Worth officers responded at approximately 12:05 a.m. to multiple calls of shots fired in the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. When officers arrived, they heard additional gunfire and saw a man with a gun. Officers approached the man and told him to drop the weapon, according to FWPD. Police said the man did not listen and pointed his weapon at officers. At least one officer fired their gun and struck the man, Fort Worth said.
Fort Worth police said its officers “immediately provided medical aid to the male suspect until the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived to assist.” The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in this shooting, FWPD said.
Hours later, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Fort Worth officers were still working the scene of the previous shooting, and a white SUV “drove by multiple times at a high rate of speed.” Fort Worth police said “it appeared the driver was attempting to hit officers standing near their vehicle.”
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove away and police pursued the vehicle in a chase, FWPD said. After about 15 minutes of chasing the vehicle, Fort Worth police stopped the vehicle using a “PIT maneuver.” The pursuit ended on I-820 near the East Lancaster exit, FWPD said.
Officers then approached the vehicle with guns drawn and gave multiple verbal commands, police said. According to Fort Worth PD, the man did not comply and grabbed an officer’s gun.
At that point, multiple officers fired their guns and struck him, police said.
Fort Worth PD said medical aid was provided by officers until the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived. This second man was also pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
An officer was injured in the second shooting and taken to the hospital, though the department said it was “unknown at this point how the officer was injured.” The officer was listed in good condition, according to FWPD.
