SHARTLESVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) — A Texas man died after a crash on Interstate 78 in Berks County late Friday night.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Donald Gene Hausenfluck, 61, of San Antonio.
He was the driver of a tractor trailer involved in a crash on Interstate 78 in Upper Bern Township, near Shartlesville.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hamburg, the crash happened just before midnight Friday night on Interstate 78 westbound near milepost 25.6.
Hausenfluck was driving a 2022 Volvo truck when troopers said he drifted onto the right shoulder, striking the trailer of a tractor trailer parked on the shoulder.
His truck overturned, blocking the highway. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency was called as the truck was hauling batteries, according to State Police.
Hausenfluck was taken to Tower Health – Reading Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the parked truck — a 25-year-old Georgia man — was taken to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A secondary crash happened between two passenger cars as a result. Further information on that crash was not provided by State Police.
