LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Tech Red Raiders advanced to the second round of the Lubbock Regional after their 10-3 win over Marist Friday evening set to take on the Ole Miss Rebels starting at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon from Tracy Sellers Field.
FIRST INNING:
The Rebels would lead off the scoring with a single shot home run to left field off of Nijaree Canady to give Ole Miss the 1-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING:
Canady would give up another home run, this time a three-run home run in the fourth inning to extend the Rebels lead to 4-0 while the Red Raider bats stayed cold.
SEVENTH INNING:
The Red Raider bats would explode in the seventh inning, down to their final out and Kaitlyn Terry singled to right field to score in Lauren Allred. Jackie Lis would follow terry up with a two-run home run and suddenly this was an 8-3 ball game with just two outs remaining as Texas Tech clawed back.
They’d keep that rally going; Taylor Pannell reached on an infield single scoring in Jasmyn Burns as well as advancing Mia Williams to second making this one just a four-run ball game.
But here is where the madness continues, bases loaded for the Red Raiders, trailing 8-4 with just one out remaining, Allred steps to the plate and swings at the first one she sees and it leaves the park from left field for the Texas Tech Grand Slam to tie this ball game up at 8-all sending it to extra innings.
EIGHTH INNING:
Ole Miss would regain the lead in the eighth inning off a right centerfield single taking the 9-8 lead but Texas Tech leaned on their bats. With two runners on, Burns singled to centerfield, allowing Terry to come in from second base to score tying things up at 9-all.
Looking for the walk-off winner, Pannell, a big-time player for the Red Raiders, hit a sacrifice fly to right field with two runners on allowing Jackie Lis to make the mad-dash home for the 10-9 walk-off winner.
The Red Raiders are the first team out of 640+ teams since 2000 to win after trailing by 8+ runs. Texas Tech will play the winner of Marist vs. Boston University and Ole Miss vs. (winner of Marist vs. Boston University) Sunday in the Lubbock Regional final at 3 p.m.
