AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Crews continue making progress on multiple fires across the Tx Panhandle and New Mexico.
Hungate Fire in Randall County
Multiple fires in Randall County have merged into the Hungate Fire.
The fire has merged with Chocolate Chip and is now 34,005 acres and 60% contained.
The Randall County Sheriff’s Office says several outbuildings and three homes have been destroyed. The damage assessments remain ongoing.

The Chocolate Chip fire is currently estimated at 22,110 acres and 60% contained. It has merged with Hungate and will now be tracked with that fire, according to Texas A&M Forest Service.
The fire started in the southwest area of Randall County.
The fire held its footprint overnight.
Crews will be patrolling and mopping up any hot spots.
Western Fire in Randall County
The Texas A&M Forest Service has confirmed that the Western Fire in Randall County was started by someone welding during the afternoon.
As of May 16, the fire was fully contained. It burned an estimated 1,137 acres.
Mimms Fire in Quay County
The Mimms Fire in Quay County started north of Highway 156 and northwest of Jordan on May 14.
The fire is estimated to be 7,039 acres and is 20% contained.
On Friday, air resources and response crews were able to establish and hold a fire line.
There is longer a threat to structures at this time.
