LUBBOCK, Texas (WLBT) – Ole Miss softball’s season ended Sunday with a 14-2 loss to Texas Tech in five innings at the Lubbock Regional.
The elimination game came one day after Texas Tech rallied from an 8-run deficit to defeat the Lady Rebels.
Texas Tech struck first with a two-RBI single from Jackie Lis in the first inning for a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Red Raiders broke the game open in the third inning. With the bases loaded and Texas Tech leading 3-0, a low pitch got past the Ole Miss catcher on a passed ball, allowing one run to score. Ole Miss brought in a new pitcher, but another pitch in the dirt led to a second passed ball. The catcher found the ball but could not make the tag at the plate, making it 5-0.
Texas Tech extended the lead to 6-0 before Lis delivered again with a two-RBI single up the middle. The Lady Red Raiders posted an 8-run inning against Ole Miss for the second consecutive game.
Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run for Ole Miss in the bottom of the third inning to get the Lady Rebels on the board. Cassie Reasner followed that with an RBI double to right center field to score Mackenzie Pickens, but that was the last run in this game for Ole Miss.
Texas Tech added three runs in the fifth inning to end the game on the run rule.
