Driver run over by own vehicle after brief Lubbock pursuit

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating after a brief pursuit early Monday morning in the 2900 block of Avenue N.

According to a press release, officers with the Lubbock Police Department attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle at approximately 4:32 a.m. in the area of 28th Street and Ave P.

LPD officials state that the vehicle then fled from officers, initiating a short pursuit. Officials also state that the driver of the vehicle then attempted to flee on foot in the 2900 block of Avenue N while his vehicle was still in motion. While attempting to flee, the suspect then lost his footing and fell, and his lower body was run over by his own vehicle.

The vehicle then continued rolling before striking a utility pole.

LPD officials say the driver was transported to University Medical Center by EMS with moderate injuries and charges are still pending.
