Cuantos owner and born-and-raised Austinite Luis “Beto” Robledo revealed in a two-part Instagram post made on Monday, May 18, that the new restaurant will be in a former Nugent Grocery store located at 808 Justin Lane, near CapMetro’s Crestview bus station, on the corner of Airport Boulevard and Lamar. This is about 12 minutes north of the truck’s current spot on East 12th Street. Robledo did not yet reveal an opening date for the new restaurant, but MySA has reached out for more information.
“Can’t believe we are finally saying this but after years of a space the time has finally come, We just signed the lease on our first brick & mortar!!” Beto wrote in a long, heartfelt Instagram post. “There is always plenty of room for more Taqueros & Taqueras with new concepts in the city to be open!!! We are just happy and proud to be a part of the growth.”
“In creating Cuantos we’ve never tried to be the best, be a trend, or change what our brand is to fit in,” Robledo said on Instagram. “The sole reason was to bring that feel of home in flavor, atmosphere and accessibility to all walks in life and receive the feedback of a special memory or a place that we were able to take y’all back to.”
While Cuantos Tacos will have a new home, Robledo explained that the “vibe” of the restaurant will remain the same as his signature truck in Arbor Food Park. He said the outpost will have its “trailers on site for cooking out of, so we will keep the Arbor food truck park vibe with the patio seating outside, plus indoor seating and the bar.”
Its menu is also expected to grow with new items and daily specials such as a small selection of Mexican beers, Mexican wines, frozen margaritas and some mixed drinks, according to Robledo.
“We will give more details as we go into the build at the space!” Robledo concluded. “We can’t [thank] you enough to everyone that has come by to try us, spread the word for us and bringing family and friends to eat with us. Gracias a Dios & Muchas gracias Austin!”
