Several rollercoaster riders were temporarily stuck in the air at Six Flags over Texas on Saturday, May 16, according to guests who attended the park. Social media videos showed visitors traveling down the emergency stairs of multiple attractions.
TikTok user Alyssa Reyes shared a viral clip in which adults and children are being guided down two separate coasters. In the caption of her post, she said that while in line for the “Mr. Freeze,” which reaches a height of up to 236 feet tall, everything went dark.
“They told us that ride was down,” Reyes wrote, adding that in reality, everything was off because the property’s power had gone out.
It’s a worst-case scenario for many, but especially those already spooked by tall coasters.
“No, because if I was on Mr. Freeze, there would be no way to get me out of my seat,” user Kaitlyn Macha commented on a another TikTok regarding the outage.
Six Flags spokesperson Cyle Perez confirmed to MySA over email that there was a temporary outage on Saturday. It happened after an external construction crew made contact with an underground power line, he said.
“I was on the Titan,” user Jamoi James wrote on TikTok. ” I didn’t even wanna get on but I was trynna face my fear and of course this happens lol, I cried the whole way down the stairs.”
At 245 feet, the Titan is the tallest ride in the park, according to the Six Flags website. Its top speed is 85 mph.
Perez said all guests were safely escorted off the rides and were given a complimentary ticket for a return visit. The park eventually restored power and remained open until its scheduled closing time at 9 p.m. The company did not respond to a request for comment on what time the outage happened and how long its services were shut down. The tourist spot resumed normal operations at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, opening at its regular 11 a.m. time.
Festivities include the grand opening of a museum on Smith Street near JB’s Smokehouse and the opportunity for guests to have their name engraved into pavers near the Silver Star Carousel in Star Mall.
