FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in East Fort Worth.
On May 16, 2026, at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers from the FWPD East Division were on the scene of a previous officer-involved shooting near the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. During the investigation, a white SUV repeatedly drove by at high speed, appearing to target officers standing near their vehicles, according to a press release from the department.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply, leading to a 15-minute pursuit. The chase ended when officers executed a tactical vehicle intervention, known as a PIT maneuver, to stop the SUV.
Upon approaching the vehicle with guns drawn, officers issued multiple verbal commands. The adult male driver did not comply and attempted to grab an officer’s handgun, prompting multiple officers to fire their weapons, striking the suspect. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene after officers and the Fort Worth Fire Department provided medical aid.
A Fort Worth Police Officer was injured during the incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer is in good condition, though the cause of the injury remains unknown, stated the department.
Detectives from the Major Case unit are continuing the investigation. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-392-4222. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Tarrant County Crime Stoppers by visiting 469tips.com or calling 817-469-8477.
