SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said a man with a fake gun was arrested in connection with an assault at a gas station south of downtown.
In an updated SAPD report released Monday, officers identified the suspect as John Yamamoto, 23.

Officers initially responded to the assault around 9 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of West Cevallos Street, which is located near Laredo Street.
According to police, Yamamoto approached the 32-year-old male victim at the Valero gas station on Cevallos. Officers said there was a language barrier between the two people.
Moments later, Yamamoto pistol-whipped the victim in the back of his head with a fake gun and took the victim’s belongings, SAPD said.
The victim ran to a nearby Wendy’s restaurant and eventually fell to the ground. According to the updated report, the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and refused treatment on scene.
Yamamoto initially fled the scene, but officers said he returned to the area.
Yamamoto attempted to escape into the San Pedro Creek, but police said he was taken into custody with the assistance of SAPD’s EAGLE helicopter.
The department said its investigation is ongoing.
