A man was sentenced to prison for a drunken crash that killed another man.
Arthur Ruiz was sentenced to 12 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter for the death of Victor Manuel Zarate-Avila.
Ruiz was driving a vehicle in March 2025 when he ran a stop sign and caused a collision that led to the death of Zarate-Avila, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
After the crash, Ruiz left on foot but was later arrested. It was discovered that he had a blood alcohol level that was over twice the legal limit, the DA’s office said.
An investigation found that the driver of Zarate-Avila’s vehicle, Juan Escalante Linares, left the scene on foot without providing aid or contacting emergency services.
Linares later turned himself in. In December, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for failing to stop and render aid.
