Houston, Texas – By day, Courtney Wunder works among the stacks at the West Pearland Library, helping others discover their next favorite read. But when she’s off the clock, this Houston artist swaps books for carving tools and pumpkins become her canvas.
Courtney is the creative force behind Wunderkins Pumpkins, where her incredible designs have gained national attention in the pumpkin carving world. What began as a seasonal hobby has grown into a full-fledged art business, one that’s taken her from local Houston demonstrations to major national events like Pumpkins After Dark in Houston and Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Through it all, she remains grateful and a little surprised by where her creative path has led.
“Life is weird and wonderful,” Courtney says. “Never as a kid did I think I’d be getting paid to create art on pumpkins. I still surprise myself by what I can do.”
Next up, she hopes to sharpen her sculpting skills — maybe even for a shot on the Food Network someday.
Until then, you can find Courtney carving up new creations, proving that a little imagination (and patience!) can turn even a pumpkin into a masterpiece.
