Watch out for the weather tonight!
The City of Port Aransas today issued a bulletin stating that city officials are monitoring the potential for strong storms and heavy rainfall tonight and over the next several days.
“The main concern at this time is overnight tonight, Tuesday, May 19, into early Wednesday morning, May 20, generally between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.,” the bulletin said.
Strong storms may bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall, lightning and isolated hail. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are possible with isolated gusts up to 80 mph possible in the strongest storms.
Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday night through the weekend. Repeated rainfall may increase the potential for localized flooding concerns over the next several days.
“Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, charge phones and weather radios, have more than one way to receive weather alerts overnight and avoid travel during severe weather when possible,” the city bulletin said. “The City will continue to monitor conditions and share updates as needed.”
