A strong storm system has barreled into Texas, leaving many in the greater Austin area without power on Wednesday morning, May 20.
According to the Austin Energy outage map, as of 7 a.m., 25 active outages are affecting 1,123 customers in Austin. Moments before, at 6:52 a.m., there were 32 active power outages across the Austin area, affecting 1,200 customers. Before that, at 6:47 a.m., more than 2,000 customers were impacted by 26 active outages.
The largest outage underway currently is in East Austin near Pleasant Valley and 7th Street, with more than 500 customers affected. Austin Energy crews are working to resolve the outages, but it may take some time.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts another round of strong storms on Tuesday, so outages may occur through the day and into the night. Flooding is possible, as well. Several roads in the greater Austin area and surrounding Hill Country cities are closed due to flooding, as well.
