EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The City of El Paso held its ribbon-cutting for its newly renovated fire station in West El Paso on Tuesday morning.

The Fire Station No. 22 is located at 6500 N. Mesa St.

The approximately $3.7 million project was funded through the voter-approved 2019 Public Safety Bond.

City officials said the renovation strengthens emergency response capabilities by modernizing the station and improving operational efficiency for El Paso Fire Department crews.

“We upgraded amenities throughout the station and provided plenty of room to accommodate the continually growing fire department. Now this facility will be here for years to come,” said Jonathan Killings, the fire chief for the El Paso Fire Department.

The work includes interior and exterior renovations, new flooring, a lighting control panel and an upgraded fire alarm system. The station also received a new kitchen, restrooms, showers and a decontamination room, along with HVAC, electrical and plumbing upgrades.

Additional improvements include new locker rooms, an exercise area, EMS supply space, new bay doors, and landscaping.

“This brings back the core to the west side. It makes sure that the citizens of West El Paso receive the care that they’ve come to expect,” said Killings.
