Crews with Dallas Fire-Rescue recently saved a nearly 200-pound dog after she fell into an underground cistern in northwest Dallas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue released this footage showing a firefighter squeezing into the hole to rescue the huge dog. According to local news outlet WFAA, the pooch, a bullmastiff named Violet, fell into a defunct septic tank.
WFAA reported that Violet was walking in an empty lot next to her owner’s home when her hind legs got caught in a 12-inch hole and her entire body slid in.

“Even I was shocked walking up to this little hole, and inside you saw the giant head of a dog in it,” Battalion Chief Charlie Abney told WFAA. “It was definitely the biggest dog I’ve ever seen. She looked almost like a very large hog.”
Crews dug a hole around the dog to create enough room for a firefighter to lift her out. With the help of about seven people, firefighters were eventually able to get straps under Violet and hoist her high enough to get her out of the hole.
