Sea turtle release set for May 31 on North Padre Island

The public is invited to watch rehabilitated sea turtles return to the water during a live release event on North Padre.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The public will have a chance to watch rescued sea turtles return to the Gulf on Sunday, May 31, during a free release event on North Padre Island.

The Texas SeaLife Center announced it will be the second public sea turtle release of 2026 and will also include a Facebook Live stream beginning at 11 a.m. Officials said several rehabilitated sea turtle patients are expected to be released back into the water.

The event will take place near Mile Marker 216 in front of the Wyndham Corpus Christi Resort on North Padre Island. Free parking will be available at the Windward parking lot.

Beachgoers are encouraged to follow organizers online for updates on beach and weather conditions ahead of the release.
