The 33rd Annual Fun Run Car Show is returning to Corpus Christi this Memorial Day weekend, bringing hundreds of classic cars together to raise money for local charities.
The event is hosted by the Coastal A’s & Rods Car Club and has been a Coastal Bend tradition for more than three decades.
Organizers said classic car owners from across Texas and other states are expected to attend the three-day event at the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Airport Hotel on Leopard Street.
According to organizer Bob Stoldorf, the show has previously attracted nearly 300 vehicles and still regularly brings in around 200 classic cars and trucks each year.
“It they come in mainly Texas, but we actually get cars from out of state too,” Stoldorf said. “We still draw 200 cars.”
The event helps support several local charities throughout the Coastal Bend, including pet shelters, the Coastal Bend Food Bank and wounded warrior organizations. “We try and divide it up and give a pretty goodly amount to everybody and help out,” Stoldorf said. “Nothing goes out of the Corpus area.”
The show officially begins Saturday at 8 a.m., but registration and early activities start Friday afternoon. Events throughout the weekend include a silent auction, games, door prizes, a cruise to Snapka’s Drive Inn and awards presentations.
Organizers said the silent auction will take place inside the hotel lobby and end Saturday afternoon.
The event is free for spectators, although donations will be accepted. Organizers are also encouraging more vehicle owners to register. Only cars and trucks model year 2001 and older are eligible to enter the show. Motorcycles will not be included in this event.
Stoldorf said the event will continue rain or shine. “Absolutely, we’re going to have it no matter what,” he said.
